One of the things I love most in this world, is chocolate! Ever since I was a kid, I loved chocolate.  While all the other kids were ordering vanilla ice cream cones, I was chocolate all the way.  I remember the very first time I ever had a taste of chocolate mousse.. it was honestly, a moment I will never forget.  I didn’t know what it was, but it was the richest, softest, most chocolatey, light and airy spoonful, I ever tasted.  I was about eleven years old and my dad took me to Washington, DC because my little sister was too young for my mother to leave her for a weekend.  One of the highlights of that trip was a cocktail party.  The dessert was chocolate mousse and as much as many mousse’s have come close throughout the years, nothing has ever tasted quite as decadent and delicious as my first mousse simply because it was my first and it was completely unexpected.

To this day, mousse trumps all other dessert options.  I’m like an addict, looking for that next yummy taste of mousse that is going to send me into euphoria.

The first time I tasted this smoothie bowl in shake form, it reminded me of that light and airy, chocolatey taste of really delicious chocolate mousse.  Somehow this smoothie bowl is the perfect balance of sweetness and rich chocolatey taste.  Every time I taste it, I’m torn between my desire to want more and my desire to savor it.  As you can see, my love for chocolate like any great love, is a constant battle.  What’s the old saying, “forget falling in love, I’d rather fall in chocolate.. ” That sums me up!

Chocolate Mousse Protein Smoothie Bowl

serves 1

  • scoop of vanilla whey or casein protein powder
  • frozen banana
  • 1 tablespoon sun butter
  • cup of almond milk
  • 2 medjool dates
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • dash of cinnamon
  • handful of ice

  • few slices of banana
  • handful of almonds
  • sprinkle of chia seeds
  • a few berries

  • Place the smoothie ingredients in a blender or Vitamix and blend until thick

*I also drink this as a shake.  To do so, don’t freeze the banana and add a little less ice.  If you’d like to drink this at night, replace the whey protein powder with vanilla casein.
